Magyk in Your House

"Down the stairs two at a time, down to the kitchen to terrorize the stove, which heard her coming and was desperately trying to light itself before she came through the door." - Septimus Heap: Magyk by Annie Sage

I read this last night in bed and thought to myself, wouldn't it be nice if the kitchen heard ME coming in the morning? The coffee in the regular coffee maker already appears thanks to technology, but if I want to leave the house with a vanilla latte in hand, that requires ME doing the work. So what if the kitchen heard me get up? My husband says everyone and everything is terrified of me so I would think every appliance in that room would be as well. The oven turns on and makes my pumpkin muffins so they are fresh out of the oven while the espresso maker begins my vanilla latte - how wonderful that would be! Unfortunately, it doesn't happen that way so I pack my muffins the night before and make the extra time in the morning for that nonfat vanilla latte that gets me animated enough to capture the kid's attention (and keep it!) while I teach them about City Wildlife, Dog Bite Prevention and Responsible Pet Ownership.

If I could truly have one magical item in the house, I think it would be the vacuum cleaner! I could come home to clean floors EVERY DAY! Without having to plug it in and push it around myself. Rather than dusting, the vacuum cleaner would turn itself on and use one of the attachements to go over the furniture (coffee table, end tables, entertainment center, couch, chairs, etc.). Just having that one magical item in the house would save me so much time!

What would your magical appliance or item be?

  1. A maid period. did you see my Sat. post? You made the top ten. Congrats!

  2. I was in San Diego for the weekend and completely missed out! Now I'm doing the Happy Dance all over the house and the animals think I'm nuts - I made the Top Three! Wow! And thank you, thank you, thank you for the opportunity, Karen!!!!

  3. I think my magical appliance would have to be my oven/stove and if I could have a second magical appliance, it would be my refrigerator. That way, I'd never have to go to the store and then my stove could always have something yummy cooked when I get home from class!

  4. Mina, that restocking refrigerator sounds divine. I would love to never have to set foot in a grocery store again. Although, I would definitely miss the farmer's market. I love wandering around from vendor to vendor checking out all the goods. It would certainly save me time!

  5. I'd pick the vacuum too! I have four cats and they drag dirt, dust, and litter all over the place. It would work magically and quietly overnight and I'd wake up every morning to clean floors.

How great would that be. I'd almost trade my husband for that. Almost. ;)

  6. I'd love a vaccuum like that!!! And if it could manage the laundry too - all the better!

You have a great blog here :)

  7. I think I'd like to borrow your magic vaccuum! I don't understand why our house stays so dusty...Other than we live three houses from the country...(in Iowa.) I've had the vents cleaned. I buy the highest % electrostatic filter. I even run a hepa filter machine upstairs...still dust seems to cover everything, within hours a thin coat reapplies itself. :( GRR

  8. Jennifer - the litter annoys me! We have three cats and use feline pine, which is slightly less annoying to me than the clay litter, but they track it everywhere so I'm vacuuming daily. We have hardwood floors and dustbunnies of their little fur are always rolling out of hidden places right after I get done vacuuming as well! Argh! But I wouldn't trade them for the world.

Jemi - I like it! It can have a few separate attachments for laundry as well. We'll make it fold the laundry when it comes out of the dryer! Thanks for the compliment on my blog. :-)

Sharon - I'm on the west coast and the dust is just as bad here. It's so disheartening to spend the time cleaning only to see it reappear an hour later.
