There's No Place Like Home

Or no place like Mom's Home anyway.

I survived the dentist! Whew! Poor man. I'm really good in that chair as long as you don't give me shots that make my heart race. I sit still and don't make a sound. He's such a good dentist, which is why I drive all the way to San Diego just to see Dr. Fenn. Worth the drive. Plus, I get to see my mom.

AND this little guy...

Sigh. He's going to be writer, I think. Such a creative mind. We were taking him to his pre-school last night (his mom is the Assistant Director) when he said, "That's not my school."

"It's not?"

"No, it's a haunted house!"

"A haunted house?"

"Mmhmm. There's a MUMMY in there!"

"Oh no! I'm scared of mummies."

"You can stay in the car."

Well, I was brave enough to get out of the car but there was a lot of running around and hiding behind cars and bushes to avoid that Mummy. Then a GHOST appeared as we were opening the door. He pulled me out of the way just in time.

"Aunt Jen! The ghost almost got you!"

He watches waaaaay too much Scooby Doo, I think. But he has so much fun pretending. WE have so much fun pretending.

We pretend the couch is a train. We go to visit people we know and famous people we wish we knew. Sometimes I ride the train and he is the conductor.

We pretend the jungle gym is a pirate ship and we're pirates. The sand is water and there is an octopus waiting to eat us at the bottom. One of us gets snatched and the other has to fight valiantly to save the victim.

We pretend so many fun things. He's so good at it. So natural.

Trips to visit Mom are so much fun - even when there is a dental visit in charge and your hair ends up purple.

What about you - who do you love to visit?

Tomorrow, I'll be posting a flashback from my past - a poem I wrote when I was 16! I had a very productive time at Mom's digging out my high school poems and short stories. So much fun to relive those times!

  1. Your hair is purple? How'd that happen.

Make-believe is so much fun. And one of my favorite parts about writing, for sure.

Getting to see your mom and the Pretender must make the dentist awesome!

  2. OK we need to hear more about this purple hair business! :)

One of the things I miss about being a kid is that endless imagination, and the freedom to play and act out those ideas. Being a kid ruled.

  3. I love going through old high school and elementary writings...some of it is so much better than I thought it would be (and some is so much worse :p).

The dentist and purple hair? Sounds like the makings of a cute childrens book :)

  4. I LOVE pretend!! That cracked me up, "you can stay in the car". He sounds like the perfect writer candidate! With a writer Aunt behind him, I doubt he wont consider it!

Glad you got all fixed up at the dentist too. Yeay!

  5. Melissa - AND I got to see Deathly Hallows again! It was great.

Liz - I thought it was a reddish brown when I got it. Mom put it in my hair and it came out purpley!

Joanna - I laughed so hard at that! Can you imagine if I was so scared of the dentist, my hair changed colors? Oooooh, character idea...

Erica - I think I'll do flashback fridays once or twice a month and put in some of those really, really bad poems of mine! Just for fun!

Colene - Grandma tried to tell him I couldn't and he said, "But Grammy, she's SCARED!" He was trying to protect me. :-) Love that kid!

  6. Aw, so cute. My daughter is big on "lets pretend". She loves to dress up- she especially loves being animals, which is funny because I was totally like that when I was her age. So awesome you found your stuff. My mom brought mine over last year and now I need to remember where it is! It'd be fun to scan them in and post them.
