Wednesday Wishes

This is Wednesday leaning out of her cat tree. She may look like just your average gray tabby cat, but she has many skills. Most of these skills, she uses for The Good. Okay, 'most' might be a slight exaggeration. Wednesday is a good little kitty, though, at heart. She loves her family, loves her sisters, loves annoying those sisters and she also loves to grant wishes. Every Wednesday morning, I will rub the side of the cat house and summon our magic cat!

My Wednesday Wishes for the week:

1) Christmas Shopping DONE! Because it's not. I'm planning to knock most of it out on Thursday. I will only have The Hubster left to buy for and he's making it difficult this year. "Nothing" has been his patented answer for what he wants. I remembered two books he had mentioned a few weeks ago in the bookstore so I bought those. He's worn his t-shirts out so I got him those. I'll pick him up some running shorts, I think. And he needs sweatshirts. See, if you don't request things (like candles!), you get practical gifts. Not that candles aren't practical. But I'm anxious to WRAP so I want to get the shopping done. Christmas music and pine scented candles and peppermint hot chocolate and wrapping!

2) That last cat! I got the females. Most important ones out of the way. We have one male left. He's spent two weeks watching us catch the others and he's refusing anchovies and mackerel and KFC. Can I tell as someone who hasn't eaten meat since they were 13 that it is a true labor of love to touch that yucky stuff as I set the traps?!?! But it will be worth in the end. A full colony trapped, speutered and back out to live their lives without bringing any more in. The restaurant where the older gentleman is the caretaker hasn't had a single rat outside since a few weeks after the cats arrived. He feels there is a benefit to keeping them around.

3) Magic. I want the ability to be two places at once. Not only would it be nice to be at home asleep while I'm teaching in the mornings...or at home writing!...I really need to be in San Diego AND in Los Angeles on Sunday. My dad and stepmom are visiting from Seattle. They will be in San Diego. At the same time, Erik's family party with all his favorite cousins is taking place here in Los Angeles. He doesn't get to see them more than once a year so this party means a lot to him. So, you see, I need to be two places at once. Magic would really help that. If I could split myself.

What about you? What are your wishes for Wednesday?

  1. I'll take your third wish. I could do with some magic in my life. And I should start looking for a mermaid in need to find myself a wish :))

  2. I'd also like to finish my Christmas shopping this week. But more importantly, I'm hoping my grandmother (93) recovers quickly from pneumonia (she's in the hospital). She came down with it over the weekend. :(

  3. Christmas shopping! Don’t remind me. I haven’t even started. Good luck with yours.

  4. Wow, that is so cool how you're trap/neutering/and releasing. I'm so in favor of that as a way to control feral cat populations (I work at a vet). Good luck with the Christmas shopping :)

  6. Oh, wow, I want to be able to be in two places at once! That is definitely one of the more useful powers :) Good luck catching that stubborn male cat!

  7. Yes, two places at once would be great...except it might get pretty tiring. My wish for today is the pain from my flu shot to go away! Just got one and my arm feels awful!!

  8. OOoo I'll take some magic! AND Christmas shopping done. But at this point those are closely related.

The cat, we had that same problem when we trapped and fixed some at work. The last one, Sully (who is a big baby now) LEARNED how to trap worked so he got in it and ate the food and was careful not to touch the trigger. The only was we got him was we were able to watch him get in the trap and step over the trigger. We had to dash out the door, trigger the trap ourselves and all before he was able to slither out. It was...like mission impossible. But we did get him. Have you tried tempting him with milk? Regular canned cat food? Will ponder this today...

  9. Bee - Ooooh, a mermaid! That's a good idea. I hadn't even thought about that. I always forget they grant wishes.

Liz - So sorry to hear about your grandma's pneumonia. Prayers that she gets better and is out for Christmas!

Lia - I was last minute last year and I actually got some REALLY great deals so not entirely a bad thing on your part!

mshatch - I've found it's the best way to help control the population. I'm helping out a kind old gentleman who has been feeding them but didn't know a thing about trapping. Sweet guy!

Erica - Why didn't I think to extend the magic to the Christmas shopping??? That's genius! I love throwing an idea out here because you all make it better!

Meredith - I know! Great idea, right? If only...

Abby - I haven't had a flu shot in ten years and I still remember that pain! I hope it's faded by the time I type this but I remember I had a nice bruise by the next morning!

Colene - I'm giving him a week. He needs to forget the traps. When I pull out the big guns (stinky fish and greasy chicken) and that doesn't work, I know it's time to give it a rest. He won't be fed for two days before I get there so he's extra hungry next week. I'm sure that will work! (knock on wood)

  10. Wow, so now I'm feeling a bit out of it! All done with christmas shopping?! Do I get a pass for having family in town? Do I get a pass for packing rather than shopping?

I suppose you'll let me pass but my family won't.

    Better hop to it.
