Wednesday Wishes

This is Wednesday leaning out of her cat tree. She may look like just your average gray tabby cat, but she has many skills. Most of these skills, she uses for The Good. Okay, 'most' might be a slight exaggeration. Wednesday is a good little kitty, though, at heart. She loves her family, loves her sisters, loves annoying those sisters and she also loves to grant wishes. Every Wednesday morning, I will rub the side of the cat house and summon our magic cat!

My Wednesday Wishes for the week:

1) Sick Kitty - One of the unfortunate parts of my job is the animals that I tend to come into contact with. The communities that I tend to teach in have a high rate of stray animals. I'm not a person who can see suffering and let it be. Today, I came out of school to a cat that was near death. So very, very sad. I will spare you the picture, but the poor thing was suffering terribly. I carry dog collars, dog leashes and dog treats with me because stray dogs are a daily occurrence. You can bet that I'll be carrying a cat carrier from now on (and I'm not really sure why this never occurred to me in the first place). Anyway, tomorrow is my day off, but I'll be driving back to the neighborhood with a carrier. I'm hoping the poor dear made it through the night. I was able to talk a neighbor into making her a bed with blankets so we'll see. My wish is that I am able to get this kitty tomorrow. I want to end her suffering. I haven't been able to get her out of my head all day and I feel like such a terrible person for having to leave her. Horrible, rotten human. That's me. Hopefully, I can reverse that tomorrow and help her to go out with love. She needs her final contact with humans to be positive.

2) Travel - The hubster and I plan to do a lot of traveling next year. We've decided to take a bunch of small trips (one a month) to various places. See friends, have fun, just live life! So I've been caching trips here and there and have the first few months down. I know there are really cool places that I'm completely forgetting about. I have Whistler, Utah (hiking Zion!), Florida (Harry Potter!), Toronto (Jenny!) and a few smaller places to see other friends...Any suggestions for nice three to four day trips? We're actually thinking of ending the year in New York with a 5K in Central Park to ring in the New Year. Pretty wild! We love to be active so any place with hiking is a bonus for us! I've found some excellent deals so far and I want the deals to continue.

3) Candles - Please don't laugh. It's a bad obsession. People rocked my birthday last year and I've made it through the past 10 months without purchasing a single candle. I know - I couldn't believe it either. But I'm running dangerously low. Down to my last two. Gasp! I need more, but I haven't found scents that are working for my NaNo project. I'm visiting The Mom so I'm hoping I can find some at a little candle shop by her. Is it weird that I'm only asking for candles for Christmas and my birthday? I don't need anything else. Really! I'm a lucky girl. Candles and coffee and I'm set!

What about you - what are your wishes for our magical cat?

  1. Oh no, I hope you make it back to the cat, too. Your short monthly travels sounds like a great idea; when I'm a real grown-up (instead of just pretending), I'd love to do something similar, although my trips would look very different. You'll have something to look forward to every month instead of once a year for a fortnight!

I'd like to wish for a trip myself, a few days in London or a week somewhere warm. A really fantastic meal would be, well, fantastic. And a decent night's sleep since I've been getting up earlier than I'm used to and haven't been sleeping well.

  3. LOL! Omg! I'm here on a Wednesday! I'm feelin it... I'm feelin it!! OK, first, that's just awful about the sick kitty. I hope you find her, too. And rock on with your travel deals. Good luck with that! And mmm... I haven't thought about using candles when I write, but I love them, too... I hope all your wishes come true.

I have three, but I won't tell. Because I want them to come true! Scratch Wednesday for me, and have a super day~ :o) <3

  4. I know how you feel. I work at an animal hospital in a rural area where people often don't have the $ to care for their pets properly. It's very sad.

And I share your love of candles! It is hard to find the perfectly scented ones, NOT the ones with the fake perfumy smell. ick! I have a particular favorite made by Bennington Candle in VT I think is called Earth. It's green and smells divine.

  5. Aww, I hope you get the kitty and nurse it back to health. I feel so sad about it.

I love candles too. All kinds - the very slim tiny ones as well as the thick designer ones. Damn, I love candles :)

My wish? I really really want my NaNo to go faster.

  6. I hope that poor cat makes it--don't feel bad. It sounds like you did everything you could. Sounds like next year will be spectacular for you and your husband! I love the 5K in NYC idea!

  7. I second your wish for the sick kitty... I hate it when animals suffer :(

Traveling... boy do I love it. Zion and NYC sound awesome. I've been wanting to go to Seattle. Up the whole west coast, really. You could check out the wild horses on the Georgia or Carolina coasts. Savannah is fun, too. Chicago? Pizza...mmm.

  8. I also rescue cats, so I understand how awful you feel, but there's nothing you could have done. Even if you had a carrier, there's no guarantee you would have caught her. Even injured feral cats get a burst of strength when they're scared.

I hope you find her again. Don't forget that the cat world is better with you and other like-minded people in it. Sometimes things happen and we can't rescue them all.

  9. Oh, poor darling kitty. Don't feel bad, though--you're one of the people who cares and takes action. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you find her.

Your upcoming trips sound fantastic! I hope there'll be pictures and blog posts!
