A is for April and Adoption

I was really looking forward to the A to Z Challenge this month, but I'm going to have back out of it. With over 900 bloggers, I know that I won't be missed. I've got rewrites that have to be finished and a query that has to be polished by the end of the month.

Add to that - we're going through the long process of trying to adopt. After not being able to have kids of our, we've made the decision to forgo fertility and just give a home to kids who need one. I want children to love, nurture and raise. They want a mom. Seems like a good fit. The process for county adoptions is long and drawn out - they want to make the right match so the children are home permanently. This means lots of trips to San Diego this month for interviews, parenting classes, etc. I felt that took precedent over the blogfest, no offense to the hosts. It's been a heartbreaking decade and this house is desperate for the sound of children's laughter. So are The Hubster and I. The adoption was the pebble that tipped the scales in favor of the month off.

I wish everyone luck with the challenge - have FUN! After all, that's why we do this. We love to write and it's so much fun! I'll be popping in to read everyone's blogs and comment here and there.

I will see you all in MAY!

  2. Good luck with the adoption process! My cousin and his wife went through it with their two kids, so my words of advice: don't get disappointed if everything doesn't fall into place as quickly as you feel like it should. My cousin started to get really down because they were on a waiting list for two years before they got their daughter and then five years before they got their son. So be patient, it will be worth it!!

  11. Congratulations on your decision. I hope you and your hubby find the perfect baby for you guys. Since we’re talking about adoption, let me tell you a story about one of my husband’s friends. He and his wife have been trying to have a baby for like ten years and nothing. Eventually, they gave up and decided to adopt. They adopted two sisters who were born to an alcoholic drug abusive mother. The girls, both, had mental disabilities and they felt bad for them and adopted them. In Illinois, the law is that you have to foster the child for a whole year before you legally can adopt them. After the year, on the day when the adoption papers were signed, the wife found out she was pregnant. Now, they have two adopted and one biological daughters. They’re a very happy family. They decided that their destiny was to save a couple of lives before they could have one of their own. I hope that turns out to be your story too. You seem like a very good person and given the love and attention you give to your animals, I’m sure you will make a great mother.

  12. Sorry you can't do the A to Z challenge. I understand. I'm surprised to be here. I was totally afraid to take part. Hope all goes well with the adoption proceedings.

  13. This is obviously a VERY right decision - personal life beats blogging any day. I wish you all the best in the process, and look forward to see you back here when the time is right for you.

The only thing I don't agree with you with in this post is that you won't be missed. But we will survive :)

  21. I would love if we stayed in touch because I for one will definitely be diving into the adoption pool within the next two years and would love to know someone who has already been through it. I wish you the best of luck with any classes and meetings you have to attend. I know that you'd make a fabulous parent. You are always so kind and sweet.

Sorry you aren't able to stay with the challenge but it can get pretty overwhelming!!

    Good luck with re-writes!

  26. Aw, I think you chose the most important thing over the challenge. I have dealt with infertility. I hope the adoption goes smoothly and you find the perfect fit for your family. Also, good luck with your writing.

Found you through the A to Z.
